Help students reach their full potential!
Counselors are here to help students:
Sort Out Problems – Sometimes just talking to someone helps make things clearer.
Discuss Feelings & Needs – This helps ensure students’ decisions are based on their values.
Explore Options – Every problem has more than one solution.
Reach Decisions – Learning skills for making healthy decisions on their own.
Our counseling program at Bemus Point Elementary is preventive and developmental. Working together we can identify roadblocks interfering with your child’s learning and/or teach lifelong skills needed for success.
Strategies include:
Individual counseling–private interactions working on specific issues.
Classroom Guidance–interactive lessons which foster academic, social, and emotional growth for all grade levels. Examples for each grade level include: K: I Care Cat, 1st: Kelly Bear, 2nd: Ed the Bee, 3rd: Alexander’s Amazing Adventure, 4th: Bully Proof, 5th: Circle Time, and 6th: Career Exploration. Also, additional topics based on need, identified by teachers.
Small Group Counseling–based on structured learning activities – providing an excellent opportunity to feel supported and learn from peers. Some of the topics include: divorce, social skills, peer relations, confidence building, and grief.
Consultation and Coordination–individual and group conferences, referrals to needed resources in the community, organize Instructional Support Team.
