Bemus Point Central School District

Bemus Point Elementary Counseling Corner

Hi!

I’m Mrs. Calph!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, my name is Jena Calph and I am the school counselor at Bemus Point Elementary! This will be my ninth year as a school counselor and I am so excited to be back with this wonderful school and community for my 3rd year here. I have 7 years experience as an elementary counselor and absolutely love working with this age group. I am a mom to a beautiful little girl named Natalie, she is 2.5 years old and my husband and I love watching her grow and learn!

My primary responsibilities are to promote and support the academic, personal and social development of all students. I will be working with students in a variety of ways including classroom lessons, small group counseling, individual counseling and school wide programming. I am also here as a resource for parents/families and staff to conduct consultations, community referrals and support in any way I possibly can!

My goal is to provide our Bemus Point families the opportunity to grow together both academically and socially in whatever way that may look for your child. Any student can request to meet with me or be referred by an administrator, teacher, and/or parent/guardian. My door is always open and I invite any feedback, questions or concerns you may have about any of our students. I look forward to working together to make this school year a rewarding experience! Please feel free to join my Remind class below, it is new from last year! This is a great form of communication along with email and phone.

Move This World

BPE's New Social Emotional Learning Program

Dear Families,

To support our students’ social emotional needs and mental health, we are using a video-based social emotional learning (SEL) curriculum from Move This World. I’m excited to share that you’ll be able to access this helpful curriculum at home, too!

Social emotional learning is how students learn to process and manage emotions as well as important social skills. It includes everything from goal setting to stress management, and it provides both children and adults with tools they can use to express themselves authentically and safely. SEL helps students build healthy relationships, communicate effectively, and live a meaningful life.

Below, you’ll find log in instructions:

Practicing social emotional learning at home can help your students:

  • Identity and recognize their emotions.

  • Build critical social skills.

  • Connect with themselves and others.

  • Navigate challenges they may be experiencing.

  • Adjust to the new school year.

Move This World is a social emotional learning program delivered through an extensive online library of PreK-12 videos and resources rooted in creative expression that help students, teachers and staff develop a common language to improve communication and build trust. We’re so glad that you’ll be able to access Move This World videos and resources at home, and hope they are helpful for your student and family.
