Be SMART

Bemus Point advocates for Firearm Safety

On Monday, March 11, 2024, the Bemus Point Central School District's Board of Education passed a resolution in support of the application of the Be SMART program in public schools to further secure gun storage in homes with children.

The Be SMART campaign focuses on responsible gun ownership to prevent gun-related child deaths. Be SMART provides a framework that parents, caretakers, and community leaders can follow to help keep their communities safe. SMART is an acronym that stands for:

  • Secure all firearms in your home and vehicles;
  • Model responsible behavior around firearms;
  • Ask about the presence of unsecured firearms in other homes;
  • Recognize the role of firearms in suicide, and;
  • Tell your peers to be S-M-A-R-T.

        Information can be found on the Be SMART website.

        The Bemus Point Central School District is committed to supporting any resources that may be or become available to encourage gun safety and the safety and welfare of all of the individuals who enter the District's buildings and grounds.
