Bemus Point Central School District

The Bemus Point Central School District is located in the geographical center of Chautauqua County, which is the western-most county of New York State. Organized in 1937, it covers a 59-square-mile area on the eastern shore of Chautauqua Lake between the City of Jamestown and the Town of Chautauqua. The area is largely residential and agricultural, with summer homes and resorts located along the lake. A large portion of the residents are employed in the City of Jamestown, a diversified industrial city of about 29,500 population.

Bemus Point is located at Exit 10 on the New York State Route 86 Expressway. The New York State Thruway is within 15 miles of the northwestern edge of the school district. Long Point State Park is located on Lake Chautauqua at Bemus Point.

The District contains Protestant and Roman Catholic churches, volunteer fire departments, police protection, and two public libraries. Midway Park, a summer amusement enterprise, and the Village of Bemus Point each maintain public bathing beaches, in addition to the one at the State Park. Located within close proximity to the Bemus Point District is the well-known Chautauqua Institution. Chautauqua plays host to a wide variety of speakers and performers from the fields of government, music, dance, arts, and theatre during a ten-week summer season.

The student population for the 2019-2020 school year is 366 in grades 6-12, and 284 in Pre-Kindergarten through 5. They are presently housed in one elementary building (UPK-5) and a junior-senior high school building (6-12).
