Isolation and Quarantine Update
New Timeline for COVID Positive and COVID Exposure - January 10, 2022

If you test positive for COVID-19

Everyone, regardless of vaccination status must:

  • Stay home for 5 days
  • If you have no symptoms or your symptoms are resolving after 5 days, you can leave your house. If you have a fever, continue to stay home until your fever resolves. Individuals may return to school on day 6. (Day 0 is the first day of symptom onset. If asymptomatic, day 0 is the day of the positive test.)
  • Continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days.
  • Contact the building nurse so that we can establish isolation dates for the student or employee.

Who does not need to quarantine?

If you come into contact with someone with COVID-19 and you are in one of the following groups, you do not need to quarantine

  • You are ages 18 or older and have received all recommended vaccine doses, including boosters and additional primary shots for some immunocompromised people. (You need to be fully vaccinated and boosted at least 14 days before the first date of exposure to stay out of quarantine.)
  • You are a student aged 5 or older and completed the primary series of COVID-19 vaccines. (At least 14 days before the first date of exposure.)
  • You had confirmed COVID-19 within the last 90 days (you tested positive using a viral test).

You should wear a well-fitting mask around others for 10 days from the date of your last close contact with someone with COVID-19 (the date of last close contact is considered day 0). Get tested at least 5 days after you last had close contact with someone with COVID-19.

Who should quarantine?

If you come into contact with someone with COVID-19, you should quarantine if you are in one of the following groups:

  • You are ages 18 or older and completed the primary series of recommended vaccines, but have not received a recommended booster shot when eligible, unless you are a fully vaccinated high school student.
  • You received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine (completing the primary series over two months ago and have not received a recommended booster shot.
  • You are not vaccinated or have not completed a primary vaccine series.
